Kay M. Bates grew up in Washington and California. An avid reader, she experimented with writing from a very early age. One of her favorite pastimes as a child was writing her own “books,” complete with illustrations.
Kay’s interest in writing was rekindled when she lost her vision for several months. Unable to read the books she loved, Bates used her imagination and wrote stories on her laptop to pass the hours. This resulted in the production of her first children’s novella, “Gordon Pumpkin Smith the Second.” Kay partnered with her sister and local artist, Kathryn R. Smith, for the illustrations of this work.
Kay enjoys cooking, music, and hiking. She resides in Washington State and holds a both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree.
